STEM Games
In Summer 2018, MaST Academy returned to Canutillo High School to present a two-week camp for entering 9th grade students. MaST scholars were tasked with created TEKS-aligned, hands-on lessons revolving around Greek and Roman era Olympic Games! During the camp, students:
- Utilized the Engineering Design Process to design and build a chariot to compete in a race
- Wrote linear equations that illustrated a constellation
- Used tessellations to create a unique team flag
- Built volcanoes and conducted experiments to determine the angle of repose for different materials
The camp ended with field trips to: Downtown El Paso, where students applied their new skill of GPS navigation to solve a scavenger hunt; the Gene Roddenberry Planetarium; and White Sands.
MaST would like to thank ADP, Canutillo ISD, and MaST Mentor Teachers Dani Pena and Xena Quintana for guiding the students through inventing, collaborating, and presenting a hands-on, competitive camp!
